The Client

Based in Glasgow, MacDuff International is a global scotch whisky exporter and also the owner of three long established and respected whisky brands.

VectorCloud provide IT Support and Business Resilience services to MacDuff as well as having been involved in the planning of the IT infrastructure for their new office development in a prime City Centre location.

The Challenge

When we first started providing services to MacDuff International, they were looking to combine developments to their existing IT infrastructure in conjunction with a move to their new offices in Glasgow City centre.

The existing infrastructure was based on Microsoft Small Business Server with in-built on-premise Microsoft Exchange for email.

MacDuff International’s preference was to remain with on-premise Email services as this suited their existing and planned business needs. They were also going through a period of growth and it was also a requirement for their additional site and remote users to access the existing SAP system.

As the new office location would host prospective customers and suppliers, it was a requirement for a guest Wireless network that would seamlessly span all floors of the building. It was also a requirement that a secured Wireless network was implemented to allow the MacDuff staff to securely access the internal network whilst hosting meetings in any of their meeting rooms.

The Solution

The solution was to initially upgrade their existing Microsoft Small Business Server to the latest Server offering from Microsoft whilst still located in the original office. Once this was completed, recommendations were made on how best to implement the new network infrastructure and secured Wireless network at the new office location.

We implemented a secured and seamless Wireless solution spanning the all floors that allowed both guests and staff to access their respective networks, isolating and protecting MacDuff’s internal network through VLAN’s for both the Private and Public networks.

Also implemented was our Disaster Recovery and Business Resilience solution which allows the on-premise servers to be virtualised offsite should an on-site incident effect the servers. This would allow MacDuff International to continue business operations by having their Server infrastructure virtualised offsite.

We also implemented Microsoft Terminal Services to allow the remote users to securely access their SAP server and have access to live data.

The server infrastructure is proactively monitored by our Network Operations Team (NOC) 24/7 and our advanced monitoring agents highlight any potential problems before they occur. Our patching process is also fully automated ensuring that servers are updated within a maintenance window agreed with the customer to minimise business impact.

The Positive Outcome

The MacDuff International IT infrastructure offers a robust and resilient framework, which is continuously monitored to prevent any unexpected downtime. The Disaster Recovery and Business resilience solution also ensures that MacDuff’s network can be reinstated either on-site or in the cloud within hours of an event that could impact both the physical server or office infrastructure allowing Business Operations to continue.

“Vectorcloud have managed and maintained all of our IT requirements for more than 2 years now and we have always found their service to be first class. SLA’s are consistently met. System upgrades and recommendations are always explained clearly and concisely to those of us with limited IT awareness.

We now have an infrastructure that benefits from the reliability and security of VectorCloud’s Business Continuity solution giving us comfort in knowing that our systems can be restored within hours and not days.”
