The Client
Johnston Mailing Ltd (JML) operate from Scotland’s largest business park and boast a secure production facility that can run high volume national direct mail campaigns and short bespoke mailings.
VectorCloud have been supporting Johnston Mailing for the past few years and working with them to improve their existing infrastructure to a more reliable, robust and scalable solution.
The Challenge
JML wanted to strive towards ensuring their infrastructure and customer data was as secure as possible to keep in line with their commitment to quality and service.
With this in mind, VectorCloud recommended a solution that would ensure automatic offsite backup and verification, as well as proactive ransomware scanning on the backed up data in addition to their network anti-virus scanning solution.
JML was also working towards their ISO 27001 accreditation, and this required their systems to provide a model for establishing, implementing, operating, monitoring, reviewing, maintaining and improving an Information Security Management System.
The Solution
Through working pro-actively alongside Johnston Mailing, we discussed a staged plan to move them to a scalable Microsoft Hyper-V server solution, with Microsoft Hosted Exchange and our state of the art Business Continuity and Data Recovery solution, which monitors backups for suspected ransomware infections, as well as allows the virtualised server instances to be brought online and recovered within minutes, not days in a disaster recovery scenario!
We also discussed the requirements of their infrastructure to aid in obtaining ISO accreditation with relation to providing a secure Information Security Management System.
We also staged the migration of the developments to minimise downtime and ensure a structured and reliable process was followed throughout the system development.
The Positive Outcome
Further to the developments on the Johnston Mailing network, the virtualised infrastructure allows for a far more resilient and scalable network.
Our backup solution also monitors for suspicious activity on the file structure and alerts us should this occur. This also provides the customer with daily verified snapshots of their server as a proof of concept should a recovery be required.
These developments in turn, helped them comply with their ISO27001 accreditation by providing a secure infrastructure and ensuring data is kept safe and can be recovered within minutes in a disaster recovery scenario.
